A HEPA or High Efficiency Particulate Air filter is a type of mechanical filter that purifies the surrounding air. It works by forcing air through a fine mesh that traps harmful particles such as pollen, pet dander, dust mites and smoke. According to the EPA, air cleaning and filtration can even help reduce airborne contaminants, including particles containing viruses.⁽¹⁾ The CAP600-UVP works with your existing HVAC system to supply clean air to every room in your home. It has a four-stage filtration process.

STAGE 1

pre-filter for capturing coarse particles like dust, dirt, pollen, soot or smoke — harmful matter that is often visible to the naked eye as a physical object or darkened air

STAGE 2

2” deep activated carbon filter for capturing unpleasant odours and smaller particles that can get deep into your lungs, like volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted from cleaning agents

Noise Reduction

The fan in the system is powerful. It needs to be — purifying the air in your entire home is a big job! The fan has to overcome high static pressure inherent to the dense HEPA filter, making it louder than your heat pump or furnace fan if it's not installed properly.

To reduce that noise, our team locates the duct connection points and strategically adds acoustic liner to the existing ductwork. We also ensure that it's not transferring vibration to your home's structure and resonating. And just like that, your ventilation system is no noisier than it was before but nearly 100 times more effective at removing airborne pollutants.

Proper Filtration

You want the fresh air from outside to come through your HVAC system for healthy air inside but sometimes the outside air is the problem! It's critical that all of the outdoor air brought into your home's ventilation system runs through your new HEPA filter. This usually involves relocating the outdoor air connection to the existing ductwork, which we'll take care of during installation.

Safe Circuits

Our team uses mechanical devices to ensure that the CAP600-UVP provides HEPA filtration to your entire home safely and reliably. It only runs when your furnace fan or heat pump is also running. This prevents "short circuiting," where filtered air is re-routed to the path of least resistance within the return ductwork. However you heat/cool your home, you can trust that we'll have your health and safety top of mind.

These devices also give you total control. If you adjust your digital thermostat, you also adjust the HEPA filtration unit. If you want maximum filtration, run your furnace or heat pump fan 24/7. It's simple and effective.

A: You could. But Abatement Technologies strongly recommends hiring a licensed and trained HVAC technician to reduce health and safety risks, such as fire or electrical shock (see CAP600-UVP manual). A: Electronic air cleaners start off with lower efficiency and their efficiency drops way off as the collection plates get dirty. Most models require frequent, ongoing maintenance. The efficiency of HEPA filter media remains at or above 99.97% throughout the filter loading cycle.
