AMICA ON THE GORGE ASSISTED LIVING

Interior and exterior ductwork for Seniors Facility

The Amica on the Gorge is a 166-unit Seniors Facility, consisting of independent living, assisted living, and Alzheimer’s suites. The four-storey concrete building includes underground parking, interior courtyards, and rain gardens, as well as central kitchen facilities, a dining space, and laundry facilities.

Lewis Sheet Metal exhibited their ability to offer solutions to design complications during this project, saving the client money and time while installing an aesthetically pleasing ventilation system. An ecologizer was installed to extract the maximum amount of grease from the kitchen hood, which was then vented through sloped ductwork to the lubers on the building exterior. The multi-stage filter leaves nothing but a homey aroma for Amica residents — like walking into one’s family home, a meal waiting on the table. In a facility where comfort is of utmost importance, every welcoming detail counts. Lewis Sheet Metal also completed the ductwork in the mechanical room in the parkade, using elbow transitions to navigate the space.

The Amica project was a finalist in the 2019 Vancouver Island Construction Association Awards. The project included heritage restoration of the famous Brookman’s Grocery, which was a local favourite that opened in 1930 as the Craigflower Bridge Store.

Lewis Sheet Metal completed the interior and exterior ductwork for the Amica in Spring 2018.
